Converting excavators into rotary drilling rigs is a solution to achieve specific pile foundation construction functions by modifying existing equipment. It is suitable for small and medium-sized pile foundation projects (such as building foundations, small bridge pile foundations, etc.) and can reduce equipment procurement costs to a certain extent. But the modification needs to be combined with the performance of the excavator, construction requirements, and safety regulations.

The core function of a rotary drilling rig is to drive the drilling tool to cut soil/rock layers through the rotating power head, while using the lifting mechanism to bring the drilling slag out of the hole. The excavator itself has a hydraulic power system, chassis walking ability, and basic boom structure. The core of the modification is to use the existing advantages of the excavator (power, walking, load-bearing) to supplement the key functional components of the rotary drilling rig (power head, drill rod, drilling tool, etc.).

Simply put, the "hydraulic pump" of the excavator provides power, the "chassis" is responsible for movement and stability, and the "boom/boom" has been modified to undertake the functions of "mast (guidance)+lifting", with the addition of a "power head" to achieve rotary cutting - ultimately forming a simple rotary drilling rig.
